Air Purifier Advice

Easy and Budget Savvy HEPA Filter Replacements

April 12, 2021 by john

What is the foremost reason people give for not buying a HEPA filter air purifier? HEPA filter replacements!

So, why are filterless air cleaners preferred while HEPA air cleaners have become persona non grata in so many homes?

Much of it has to do with marketing, especially by Sharper Image, which managed to gain as much as 25% of the air purifier market before going bankrupt. Their infomercials implied noise, mess, a need for tools for filter changes, and expensive HEPA filter replacements as reasons to choose their product.

Most vendors of ionic air purifiers have followed suit in promoting their versions of filterless home air cleaners. Air cleaners that rely on HEPA filter media have taken a black eye as a result.

It’s true that some air cleaner marketers have abused customers by selling a cheap air purifier only to gouge them with regular replacement of high priced filters. Some of these models are presented as being HEPA because they use HEPA filter material. The reality is their poor quality construction means that actual efficiencies are a far cry from true HEPA air cleaners.

Can HEPA filter replacements be easy?

No filters is not only promoted as being more economical but easier to maintain. No tools needed, cries the delighted infomercial actor. The reality is that most HEPA filter replacements can be done without tools and without the “messiness” they also claim you’ll suffer. It usually takes no more than five minutes, including the time to take the filters out of the packaging and the packaging out to the garbage.

Compare that to the time spent cleaning the collection plates on an ionic unit every few days. Since collection efficiency can degrade to as little as 20% in as few as three days, maintenance cleaning should be done often. How much time will you spend cleaning collection plates over the next five years, the projected life of some HEPA filters?

Which brings me to an economical feature of HEPA air purifiers: HEPA filter replacements may only be needed once every five years. This keeps your maintenance requirements low and your air purifier cost low. Both of these goals appear to be foremost on the minds of those who are considering going filterless. HEPA air cleaners that can achieve this while giving you the superior performance of HEPA filtration are surely worth considering, wouldn’t you agree?

The most economical HEPA filter replacements

Which companies offer HEPA quality air purifiers with a long filter life?

There are many excellent products available from companies like IQAir and Blueair, both of whom are often mentioned on this site.

But when it comes to overall economy and performance the top two are Allerair and Austin Air. Both of these companies offer no fancy frills air purification that emphasizes the essentials.

You’ll find high quality construction that maximizes HEPA performance combined with excellent chemical and odor control via activated carbon air purifiers. UV sterilization is also available as well as photocatalytic oxidation to further improve gas, odor and bacteriological control.

Allerair home air purifiers offer both HEPA filters and activated carbon filters with four to forty-eight pounds of activated carbon. Activated carbon air filter life is as long as 3 years. The HEPA filter replacements are recommended at three to five years, even eight years in the case of the AirMedic air purifier.

Typical HEPA filter cost for their most popular model, the 5000 Exec.. That comes to only 20 per year for each year of expected filter life.

All filters are easy to change without tools and can be replaced separately, which offers a cost savings over air cleaners that require you to replace both carbon and HEPA filters as one unit. There is even the option of replacing the carbon in bulk as opposed to a filter cartridge for further cost savings.

All are simple and no nonsense HEPA air cleaners. No filters cost more than and that is for the highly specialized MCS unit. Quoted prices reflect the cost of the HEPA filter only.

Austin Air manufactures good economy priced HEPA air purifiers that also provide VOC, gas and odor removal. Austin Air air purifiers concentrate on the essentials of air cleaning and are not loaded with fancy features.

A small drawback of the Austin Air models is they use a combined HEPA and gas phase filter comprised of activated carbon and zeolite. This means you have to replace both at the same time. However they are expected to last as long as five years and total cost is reasonable.

The typical cost of HEPA filter replacements for their most popular Healthmate model. That equates to only 36 per year for the combined HEPA and activated carbon air filter, which is quite reasonable. There are a number of specialized filters available at extra cost.

Finding Quiet HEPA Air Cleaners

April 12, 2021 by john

Noise is one of the biggest complaints about air purifiers.

Are quiet HEPA air cleaners just not possible? Should noisy air cleaners be accepted as a necessary evil?

How can you make certain that your air purifier won’t be a source of noise pollution?

The secret to noise free air cleaning is really very simple.

Discover the Key to Quiet HEPA Air Cleaners

Regardless of the air purifier you buy, the real issue is not how loud it is on high but how loud it is on low. Higher settings are best used short-term to remove high levels of pollutants that occur occasionally, such as a kitchen mishap that fills your home with smoke.

Do not buy your air cleaner based on the maximum area it is rated to clean. An air purifier that can clean an 800 sq. ft. area can certainly handle 200 sq. ft. but with one important benefit. The smaller area can be cleaned on low or medium settings. These lower speeds are substantially quieter than an air purifier’s highest setting.

An air purifier on low will measure only about 30 to 35 decibels. This is lower than an average refrigerator and much lower than a soft conversation.

When making your air purifier choice, don’t make the mistake of buying too small a unit that must run on high to cover the area you need. Proper sizing of your HEPA air cleaner can mean almost silent air purification.

Most Recommended Quiet HEPA Air Cleaners

The Blueair air purifiers are a perfect choice for office, bedroom or anywhere truly quiet HEPA air cleaners are needed.

Blueair air purifiers are a top customer favorite due to their virtually silent operation. These quiet HEPA air cleaners are built around the patented HEPASilent filtration system.

Blueair’s HEPASilent filtration captures particles by combining electrostatics with a high efficiency filter. Electrostatic brushes inside the air purifier charge particles so they are attracted to the filter media while producing no ozone. Charged particles cling to the filter media yielding higher filter efficiency.

Air passes easily through the filter media so the fan doesn’t have to work as hard or as loud. Even the housing is made from noise muffling and highly durable galvanized steel.

When you want a small yet powerful air purifier that is ideally designed for clean air delivery and whisper-quiet operation, Blueair HEPA Air Purifiers are an excellent choice. The Blueair Air Purifiers feature outstanding Clean Air Delivery Rates (CADR). The larger 501 Blueair HEPA Air Purifier won Best of Class for CADR, as it delivered more clean air than similar air purifiers in its class.

Got Allergies Need to Choose the Best Home Air Purifier Possible

April 12, 2021 by john

This home air purifier guide raises questions you may have asked and gives you clear, simple facts.

Please use it to your advantage by avoiding ineffective products and succeed at getting the clean air you really want.

Which Pollutants Do You Really Need To Remove?

Will your air cleaner really protect you?

The first key is realizing allergens, dust and smoke are only the tip of the iceberg.

Medical evidence reveals a greater health threat from ultra fine particles.

Your typical home air purifier does little to remove these pollutants.

Sufferers of respiratory problems like asthma, COPD, hyperreactive airway or MCS especially need to remove ultra fine particles.

Why not learn the real secret to a top home air purifier?

Which type home air purifier cleans the air best?

Reject poor performers

It’s good to have choices, but not if you lack the information to choose confidently.

Knowing the limitations of different types of air cleaners lets you reject poor performers and focus on the best one for your needs.

To help you make a satisfying choice examine how these common air purification systems compare and learn how they perform against the most harmful pollutants.

You’ll be appalled by how many are a waste of money or even dangerous.

Is it true HEPA filters really are the best choice?

HEPA air filters are the gold standard

If your goose laid golden eggs would you complain it was too noisy, wasn’t handsome and was too fat?

Would you trade it for one laying rotten eggs?

Why then do people fault HEPA filter purifiers when only these perform to the exacting standards needed by medical facilities and high tech?

Here is your “golden opportunity” to learn why HEPA filters are the best air purification you can buy.

Do you need to remove odors and chemicals?

Do you need to remove odors & gases?

Many home air cleaners include a trifle amount of activated carbon so they can claim to remove odors.

Others misrepresent ozone, a lung irritant, as an odor destroyer due to its sweet smell and ability to desensitize your nose.

If you need chemical control knowing how actvated carbon, chemisorbers and catalysts really work is vital.

Learn how to remove odors & gases. Coming Soon.

How can you identify quality?

Poor quality isn’t always this obvious

Do you know the factors you should consider when determining the quality of a home air cleaner?

For instance, just because an air cleaner claims to use HEPA filter media doesn’t mean the air cleaner itself will perform at that standard.

Poorly made media, loose housings, poor gaskets and seals, and air bypassing to cool a cheap motor all reduce effectiveness.

Make sure your home purifier really works as you expect. Coming Soon.

How do you choose the size air purifier you need?

What if the Grande comes half empty?

One of the many deceptive tricks is misrepresentation of capacity.

Marketers often rate room size on just one air change per hour, not the recommended six.

They use free flow CFM ratings, that means without filter resistance, to boost apparent output.

Learn how to calculate how much capacity you need and where you can get accurate ratings. Coming.

How do you balance needs and air purifier cost?

Spare your budget an evil fate

The wrong choice is always more expensive than the right one, even if the price is the same.

And speaking of price, most people do not understand that price is no guarantee of quality or performance in a home air cleaner.

Why? Because shady marketers churn out inferior products by the hundreds (over 800, the last reliable numbers I saw) and sell them for “what the market can bear”.

These products can be quite expensive while providing little to no value. Some are even dangerous.

Learn to make savvy comparisons and strike the balance between what your budget can afford and the performance you need. Coming Soon.

How do you choose the best air purifier supplier?

Is this the best way to make a decision?

Price, selection, service, return policies, guarantees, shipping.

Even if you’ve decided upon the best home air cleaner should you place an order at any online store?

How To Choose The Right Air Purifier?

April 6, 2021 by john

Air purifier reviews are something you will definitely want to take a look at, if you are considering buying an air purifier. When buying an air purifier you will need to take into consideration a lot of essential factors in terms of features and functionality. We have lots of important information for you, so let’s get started!

Dust, mold spores, pollen, pet dander and smoke particles – all of these air pollutants can cause a number of health complications, primarily respiratory problems with children and older adults. Air purifiers are designed to improve cardiovascular health. As per the recent study conducted in Copenhagen, it was found that cardiovascular health of non-smokers can improve by making use of a hepa air purifier.

In order to protect our loved ones from the harmful effects of unwanted pollutants, you can always consider buying a good quality true hepa air purifier. Air purifiers need not be expensive, as there are many reputed brands that have introduced a wide range of affordable models in the market.

How To Choose The Right Air Purifier?

According to experts, an ideal air purifier is the one that has the capability to remove even the most pollutant particle from the environment. When planning to buy your own air purifier, there are certain factors that you need to keep in mind. The list of factors that can affect the functionality and effectiveness of the unit includes – the size of the house, pets, and the location where you stay. It is important to choose only the best make and model of the best air purifier, designed to suit your particular needs.

Factors To Choose Right Air Purifier

Clean Air Delivery Rate – (CADR)

CADR, as the name suggests, is the measure of the efficiency of an air purifier in terms of removing the air pollutant particles. It is important to get the CADR number tested by AHAM. The report is provided for pollen, dust and tobacco particles. CADR is tested with the highest fan speed. So, keep this in mind when doing the same.

Safety

Most air purifiers from almost all major brands are safe to use in both home and office. However, some models may produce ozone and other gas chemicals known to cause irritants of respiratory system and can even aggravate asthma. Many states in the US, for instance, California has already banned ozone based air purifiers for home use.

Air Purifying Performance

The design and built of a hepa filter air purifier usually determine the performance. Make sure you match the product’s specifications with the kind of performance you expect or actually need. For instance, if you require filtering odor from air, you need a model with high quality carbon filters. Most low end air purifiers are equipped with carbon filters, but have limited ability to remove smells. This can be a problem for households having pets and even teenage boys with some bad lifestyle habits.

Features and Functions

Modern air purifiers in the market are available in a wide range equipped with basic to advanced features. While the final choice will depend upon your budget, it is important to understand how taking a closer look at features and functions will help you make the right choice. Most advanced features are good such as dirty filter indicator, automatic fan adjustment and air quality indicator.

Some air purifier features are self-explanatory, but many advanced features need detailed descriptions. But, you should not get carried away with all the features being offered because in the end, the only and most important is how good the air purifying unit. Here are some that you must focus on while buying. Others may be compromised if you have a unit featuring all the listed features.

HEPA-grade and True HEPA

Hepa filter is primarily designed to remove 99.97% of pollutant particles of size 0.3mm and larger. In fact, HEPA air purifiers have become quite common in the market. They are reliable, work well and have proven to be safe and effective. The only problem is that HEPA filters need to be replaced regularly to maintain the efficacy of the system.

In the market, the term “True HEPA” is quite common and companies makes sure that customers get attracted by this feature as it means that their purifiers are HEPA certified and meet the required standard. Since true HEPA filters cannot be washed, you need to replace them regularly, depending upon the requirements of your make and model.

Ionizer

Ionizer use electronically charged plates to pull air pollutants from the environment. It follows the law of Physics, where we learned that static electricity pulls hairs standing. This is exactly how Ionizer works. Best part is that it does not need filter replacement. But, you need to clean it regularly as the plates get covered with dusts and dirt that can lead to formation of rust.

 Carbon filter

These days most air purifiers make use carbon filter that chemically bind odors from the present environment. Since HEPA filters are not enough to remove odor, having a model with additional benefit of carbon filter will help you get best benefits. Remember that Carbon filters should also be replaced regularly as the carbon will be spending a lot of its potential to remove the odors.

Pre-filter

Pre-filters are designed to increase the lifetime of subsequent filters. Since True HEPA filters are quite expensive to replace and not everyone can afford the same, using pre-filters will save you money in the long run. These are washable and replaceable. They are also more efficient, as well as extend the life of the air purifier.

There are many famous brands like the Hunter air purifier, Hepa air purifier, Holmes air purifier, Honeywell air purifier that you will easily find in the market. These are most reputed and reliable brands of all. Even though we know about all the brands, it is still very important to be careful when choosing a particular air purifier model. We hope our air purifier reviews have given you all the information to make an informed decision. Now you should be able to compare well and pick the best as per your needs and requirements.

Guide to Air Cleaners for the Home

April 6, 2021 by john

A lot of people have written to me wanting to know more about Air
Cleaners for the Home. If you are one of them, then you might find the following article helpful in your search
for information. We hope you find some useful pointers.

Air pollution has always been a major concern, but when we speak of air pollution we often
refer to the air outside the home. These days, people are more concerned about pollutants in the air indoors,
especially those pollutants that cause asthma or trigger allergies.

As more and more children are being diagnosed with breathing problems and respiratory
ailments, there is a growing need for efficient air cleaners for home use. With so many types of air purifiers
available today, you have to find out how to choose the best air cleaner for you and your family.

Indoor Pollutants

Dust is a major pollutant inside many homes, and indoor air can be 2 to 5 times as
polluted as the air outdoors. This is according to the estimate of the Environmental Protection Agency. Dust is the
generic terms for the tiny residues that come off a house and its occupants. It can include pollution from the
fireplace, skin, cooking smoke, pet dander, molds, fungi, pollen, mildew, plant spores and other sources. Dust
eventually gathers on furniture, floors, shelves, etc.

People who have allergies, asthma and other bronchial problems can suffer badly from
airborne pollutants. Visible dust is approximately 10 microns in diameter. The dust that you breathe in is
typically 0.3 micron in size.

Other indoor pollutants include noxious odors and gases.

The Best Filters In Air Cleaners

If you want fresh air in your home you have to get an air cleaner with the best filters.
Cigarette smoke has very small particles and is difficult to eliminate, unless you have the right filters in your
air purifier. HEPA or High Efficiency Particulate Air filters are recommended if you want to remove at least 99.97%
of contaminants in the air inside your home. HEPA filters can remove even those particles that are 0.3 microns in
size.

To enhance the efficiency of air purifiers, a combination of filters is often used. Some
products are equipped with pre-filters, activated carbon filters, electrostatic precipitators and the like for
cleaner air in the home. Experts do not recommend the use of ionic-type filters because they are not very effective
and they emit ozone as a by-product. Ozone is considered an air pollutant and can trigger breathing problems in
sensitive individuals.

Numbers That Matter

When shopping for an air purifier, one of the numbers to consider is the CADR or Clean Air
Delivery Rate. This number is an indicator of the product’s ability to remove pollutants from air. A higher number
means the air purifier is more efficient and better at cleaning. To determine what CADR you need for a room,
multiply the square footage of the room by 0.75. This will give you the minimum CADR to look for in an air
purifier.

You also have to figure out the CFM (cubic feet per minute) of air that moves through the
unit. In general, 250 square feet of space requires about 100 CFM. Room models can provide up to 400 CFM while
tabletop models offer up to 175 CFM. You may also want to choose a model that isn’t too noisy and has an air intake
and output on opposite sides for maximum efficiency.

Air cleaners for the home are becoming more efficient and affordable. They also offer more
features including energy efficiency.

There is a lot of information to be considered before purchasing an Air Purifier and
those that are looking to get one are likely to want to find out a lot more information about air purifiers. Even
if this article serves as no more than an introduction, nothing stops you from putting the information to good
use.

1. The Greater Air Purification Technology the Better

Every air Purification technology has its own weaknesses and strengths. In which case, a good air purifier that provides multiple technologies is generally better, in order to combine the benefits, as well as eliminate the actual disadvantages of each air purification method.

Concerning the Top Air Purification Technology:

Hepa Air Filtration Over view

Hepa filters are the most efficient kind of air filter available. They are ninety nine percent effective at removing contaminants small as .03 microns. Hepa air filters had been created by the Atomic Energy Commission during the 2nd World War to get rid of the radioactive dirt from plants, and are suggested by the U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security.

Hepa Air filters Strengths

Elimination of dirt, pollens, mold spores, dust mites, and other allergens.

Elimination of numerous germs.

Strong contaminants taken are not released into the atmosphere again.

Hepa Air Filter Weak points

Difficult time eliminating flying contaminants from over the room, since they must end up being drawn with the filtration system.

Do not remove chemical substance fumes, gas, cigarette smoke or smells.

Do not catch ultra-fine contaminants, viruses or even germs.

Micro-organisms captured within filtration system may breed and/or reproduce, resulting to an increase micro-organism population.

Technologies which Compliment Hepa Air filters

Ionizer to cause quality contaminants to magnetically connect together, making them easier to capture, and also to much better remove airborne particles through over the area, because ions can be circulated.

Activated Carbon Air filter in order to capture the chemicals, gases, as well as cigarette smoke which Hepa filter systems cannot.

Germicidal UV Light to destroy viruses as well as bacteria that are not captured through Hepa filters, and that additionally prevent micro-organisms trapped in the Hepa filter from reproduction and/or reproducing.

Ozone Generator to get rid of smells that are untouched through Hepa filters and should be able to end up being turned off.

The Encompass Air “Multi-Tech” Air purifier utilizing Hepa Air conditioning filter, Ionizer, Germicidal Ultra violet Lamp, and Ozone Electrical generator that may be totally turned off.

Air Ionizer over View

An air ionizer produces bad ions, which alter the polarity associated with flying contaminants, causing them to magnetically attract. As a result, they become too large to remain flying, and drop from the air that you simply breathe in. An effective ionizer will use a stainless steel “needlepoint” that will produce negative ions.

Air Ionizer Strengths

Elimination of particles from the air, such as ultra-fine contaminants no more than .01 microns.

Neutralization of infections, bacteria, cigarette smoke and chemical substance gases.

Can circulate throughout the room to remove airborne contaminants that are over the area through where the air purifier rests.

Atmosphere Ionizer Weaknesses

Doesn’t collect many or even most of the flying contaminants removed from the environment.

Does not remove the odor.

Doesn’t destroy germs, fungi (even though it does remove all of them from the atmosphere), and never all viruses.

 Will not remove all chemicals.

Technologies which Compliment Air Ionizers:

Hepa Air filters to gather ionized particles.

Ozone generator to remove odors and will be able to end up being switched completely off.

Germicidal UV Light in order to destroy bacteria, infections, as well as fungus.

Activated Co2 Air filter in order to successfully capture chemical substance fumes.

The Encompass Air “Multi-Tech” Air cleaner using Hepa Air filter, Ionizer, Germicidal UV Light, and Ozone Generator that may be completely deterred.

Germicidal Ultra violet Light over View

Ultraviolet (UV) lights effectively destroy micro-organisms that go by the light bulb, such as bacteria, infections, germs, and fungus (like mildew). UV Gentle radiation is actually recommended by the Facilities of Disease Management to prevent disease and illness.

Ultra violet Light Strengths

Capability to destroy micro-organisms, such as germs, infections, germs, and fungi (such as mold).

Helps in avoiding disease as well as illness.

Ultra violet Lamp Weaknesses

Absolutely no affect on particulate, such as the majority of things that trigger allergies.

Absolutely no affect upon chemical substance fumes, gas, or even tobacco smoke.

No impact on odors, unless made to produce ozone, which may not be preferred below almost all circumstances. Some UV lights are designed to not produce ozone.

Technology which Compliment UV Air purifiers

Hepa filters and Air Ionizers to remove and catch solid contaminants, including dust along with other allergens that are not affected by Ultra violet lights.

Activated Carbon Air conditioning Filter to get rid of chemical fumes which are not affected from UV lamps.

Programmable Ozone Electrical generator to increase order taking away ability, which may be totally deterred otherwise needed, allowing the use of a non-ozone generating Ultra violet lamp.

The actual Encompass Air “Multi-Tech” Air cleaner utilizing Hepa Air conditioning filter, Ionizer, Germicidal UV Light, and Ozone Generator that may be totally turned off.

Carbon Air Filter over View

Activated carbon air filters consist of a massive method associated with pores with molecular size. These pores are highly absorbents developing a powerful chemical bond/attraction to odorous, gaseous, and fluid substances.

Activated Carbon Air filter Strengths

The most absorbing filter available, making it highly effective in taking chemical gases, gas, cigarette smoke, as well as smells.

Does not discharge taken substances back to the atmosphere.

Carbon Air Filter Weaknesses

Doesn’t successfully eliminate dust along with other allergens.

Doesn’t successfully catch micro-organisms.

Includes a difficult time removing substances throughout the room, since they have to travel through the filter.

Technologies that Enhance Activated Carbon Air purifiers:

Hepa Air filter in order to capture allergens and other contaminants which triggered carbon cannot.

Ionizer to get rid of chemicals through over the room.

Germicidal UV Lamp to destroy micro-organisms not really suffering from the actual triggered carbon filtration system.

The Encompass Air “Multi-Tech” Air purifier utilizing Hepa Air conditioning filter, Ionizer, Germicidal Ultra violet Light, and Ozone Electrical generator that may be completely deterred.

Ozone Generator Overview

Ozone is really a highly reactive oxidant that damages particular bacteria as well as chemical substances, including odor-causing bacteria and chemical substance agents. Ozone is highly effective in opposition to strong smells; however aren’t always needed or even wanted under normal situations. In which case, it is greatest if it can be completely turned off otherwise preferred.

Ozone Strengths

Impressive in opposition to smells, such as tobacco smoke smells.

Helps you to destroy certain chemical substances as well as germs.

Ozone Weaknesses

Smells of it may be annoying to some.

* Can cause irritation of the eyes, nasal area, as well as throat in the event that taking place within higher enough concentrations.

* Absolutely no impact on strong contaminants, like allergens.

* Does not neutralize the majority of chemical substances.

Technologies that Enhance Ozone Air purifiers

Hepa Air filters as well as Ionizer to get rid of strong particles from the air.

Germicidal Ultra violet Light to remove micro-organisms not really suffering from ozone.

Activated Co2 Air conditioning filter to remove chemicals not neutralized through ozone.

The Encompass Atmosphere “Multi-Tech” Air purifier using Hepa Air filter, Ionizer, Germicidal UV Lamp, and Ozone Electrical generator that may be completely turned off.

2. Particle Removal & Collection

Certain technologies have small effect in removing solid particles from the air. UV cleansers or ozone electronic home air cleaners without a separate ionizer and/or a Hepa air filter will be unable to eliminate dust and other things that trigger allergies in the air, the most common kinds of airborne contaminants individuals want eliminated.

Ionizers without a filtration system may remove solid particles; along with really gather much of the particulate. Hepa filters, like the filter used on the Surround Air “Multi-Tech” Air cleaner, capture things that trigger allergies and other air particle, eliminating all of them in the atmosphere, whilst preventing them from re-entering the air.

3. Elimination of Chemical substances, Gases, & Smoke

Additional atmosphere purification technologies are usually ineffective at these frequent substances, created through home purifiers, construction supplies, smoking, etc. Activated co2 Hepa filters are usually one of the most absorbent types of filter with regard to chemical substances, while Hepa filters haven’t impact on these types of pollutants. The actual Encompass Air “Multi-Tech” Air purifier uses a triggered carbon air filter as well as its Hepa air conditioning filter.

4. Destruction associated with Micro-Organisms

Ozone as well as negative ions have some ability to destroy particular micro-organisms, but Ultra violet (sun) gentle is one of able at messing up the maximum number of micro-organisms. Ultra violet gentle destroys viruses, bacteria, germs, and fungus (such as mold) in order to help prevent disease and disease. The Encompass Air “Multi-Tech” Air cleaner includes a UV light, ionizer, as well as ozone electrical generator (which can be completely deterred) in order to synergy in opposition to micro-organisms.

5. Thorough Protection throughout the House

Several Models that is best. The very best method, and sometimes even the greater affordable way to cleanse the environment through the room is actually via the use of multiple portable electronic home air cleaners. Some businesses state their own portable air cleaner will purify an entire house. Nevertheless, this is a good inaccurate state due to the fact that portable air purifiers cannot normally cleanse several areas or even open region at a time. Actually an air purifier that makes use of negative ions (ionizer) and ozone purification cannot successfully circulate the actual ions as well as ozone all through a home.

Negative Ions as well as Ozone can’t cleanse whole house. Negative ions have a short existence (typically about 30 seconds), and can protect a place of up to about five hundred sq. foot. Ozone can travel further prior to extracting in order to air; however ozone isn’t efficient against most common and essential interior atmosphere contaminants (except for odors).

Transportable are a lot better than main stay. The other choice for purifying the air all through a house has been an in-duct air solution. In-duct air purifiers aren’t as effective as a transportable unit on the room-to-room schedule. In addition, it is difficult to find a good in-duct air cleaner that may provide several technologies.

Quantity prices; the main limitation in order to utilizing several air purifiers in an office or home is cost. The actual Surround Air “Multi-Tech” Air cleaner is actually priced as low as 129 for each unit (for that purchase associated with six or even more models).

6. Odors taking away

The most effective atmosphere purification technologies for getting rid of odors are ozone purification and triggered co2 air filtration. Ozone is a highly reactive and powerful oxidant capable of destroying odor-causing germs, while activated co2 is one of absorbing type of filtration system for eliminating chemical substance odor-causing brokers. Utilizing a combination of the two technologies, as is done within the Encompass Air “Multi-Tech” Air cleaner, is actually the best way to get rid of odors.

Ozone is excellent with regard to conditions wherever powerful odors can be found, however can be overbearing whenever they do not, since ozone has its personal aroma. In which case, you should have the ability to manage the ozone output, as well as every single child turn the actual ozone completely.

7. Filtration system Sanitization

Air filters be the breeding floor for micro-organisms. The fabrics within an air filter allow micro-organisms attached to stuck dirt particles in order to reproduce and/or breed. In which case, it is crucial that an air purifier (like a Hepa filtration system) possess a sanitizing device situated close to the actual filtration system. Or else, the actual developing populations of bacteria will be circulated into the atmosphere. An Ultra violet light, ionizer, or even ozone generator can be used for this purpose, although the germicidal Ultra violet light is actually most effective at messing up micro-organisms.

The actual Ultra violet lamp in the Surround Air “Multi-Tech” Air cleaner is positioned directly at the rear of the actual air conditioning filter cartridge, permitting this in order to thoroughly clean the air conditioning filter. The Multi-Tech also offers a good ozone generator situated close to the filter that may be activated for actually added filter sanitization.

8. Cost

Cost could be deceiving. Via a flight purifier market, you will find affordable air purifiers that work well, and extremely costly air purifiers that don’t clear the air perfectly whatsoever. In which case, cost isn’t always the way to determine the best air cleaner for the scenario. Instead, the factors given with this air purifier purchasing manual is actually a better way to assess a good air cleaner.

Understand the Replacement Costs. It is also important to verify replacement costs before purchasing a good air purifier, so you realize the total life span cost. A few air filters cost a few 100 bucks a year within replacement filters.

Replacement expenses for that Surround Air “Multi-Tech” Air cleaner are minimum, consisting just from the Hepa/Activated Carbon filter capsule (32 per replacing) and also the Ultra violet light (15 per replacing), that final 1-2 years as well as 12 months respectively.

9. Electrical Power Consumption

Numerous filters eat large amounts associated with power, adding upwards of 200 a year or even more to your electricity bill. In which case, you should verify the actual power level used by a good air cleaner. Something over 100 watts, can add more than 100 a year for your electricity bill.

The Surround Atmosphere “Multi-Tech” Air purifier uses just 40 watts of electricity, costing just a few bucks per month within energy usage, if operate constantly.

10. Sound

Atmosphere filtration units with a high power level score might be capable of drawing large quantities associated with air with the device, but they are also very noisy. As a result, instead of air pollution you now have noise pollution.

The actual Encompass Air “Multi-Tech” Air purifier includes a powerful fan. Nevertheless, it is rather calm, even about the greatest setting, and will not disrupt the actual peace and quiet in your house.

(Design XJ-3000C) Surround Air “Multi-Technology” air cleaner has the top five air-cleaning technologies.

Covers 500 sq. ft.

* High-Output Air Ionizer with regard to allergens, germs, infections, chemicals and much more.

* 99.97% Efficient Hepa filter with regard to contaminants including dirt and mold spores.

* Germicidal Ultra violet Light with regard to messing up microbiological contaminants like infections, germs, bacteria as well as fungi (such as mildew).

* Activated Carbon Filtration system for chemicals, gas, smells, and tobacco smoke.

* Programmable Ozone for powerful smells as well as filter sanitization could be totally disabled without having affected additional features.

Air Purifiers Effectiveness

Air Purifiers Effectiveness

by Mary Louise Harrelson (Stamford, CT.)

Q; How can we measure an air purifiers effectiveness? I have an allergy air purifier now (or allegedly it is!!) and I don’t notice a difference in my allergies.

A: I’ll give you several easy practical things and then more technical (or expensive) solutions. I’m not sure what allergies you have and that will determine an air purifiers effectiveness.

Here’s a list of tests:

Tests you can do yourself:

Check the HEPA filter, or inside of the air purifier

Check the pre-filter

Clean off the electrostatic grid

Purchase a particle tester

In home tests for radon, mold, etc.

Professional Tests:

Particle tester – for small and large particles

Gas discharge meter. Co2, Carbon Monoxide, Radon tests, etc.

HEPA Air Purifier Effectiveness

If you’re allergic to dust, pollen or dander then I hope you’re starting with a HEPA filter (which I’ll assume you have because it is the first choice for allergies to dust, dander and pollen). If it is HEPA then the filter should be showing dust, dirt, etc. If you haven’t changed it for awhile that could severely affect whether it is working or not.

To get a better idea of a HEPA filters effectiveness (or any air purifiers effectiveness for that matter) then a Particle Tester is the best way to test for its effectiveness. A particle tester determines how many particles, both large and small, are in the air. On this website I have done particle tests on all the major brands

Electrostatic Air Purifiers Effectiveness

If you have an Oreck air purifier, an ” electronic air purifier “, an ” ionizer” or similar named units then you are using electrostatic to clean the air. On the particle tests for these unts you’ll find that they do not remove all the dust pollen or dander from the air. They’ll remove some of the dust, just not most of it. While inexpensive to maintain (washable) it works primarily on smoke, odor, and pollution ( car, truck, industrial pollution, etc.).

The particle tester shows the ineffectiveness of electrostatic for pollen and dust. If it’s an allergy to smoke, odor, etc. then the way to test the effectiveness is in the lab, or with a gas, Co2, or other meter which can measure gases.

Mold, Mildew Air Purifiers Effectiveness

For mold or mildew then you’ll want UV , negative ion or ozone generators. I recommend ozone to “treat” the room and not for everyday use since Ozone can harm or damage the lungs. Of course the mildew smell should go away and any visual mold or mildew should be gone too. if it is in the carpets or walls however then the air purifiers effectiveness will not be enough to remove these problems by itself. most likely you will have to have the walls, sheetrock, carpeting, etc. removed completely.

If you need more help please contact me and ask your questions.

Want to go deeper? You’ll find “insider information” on the air purifier industry, exposing the misinformation that dominates the Air Purifier field. You’ll also some of the latest research and breakthroughs in air quality technology.

40 Years of Top Air Purifier Tests and Reviews

My name is Mark Richardson, and I entered the Health Field because I had life-threatening allergies and asthma as a very young child. My struggles started a burning desire to find answers to better health. Along with air purifiers I studied herbs, nutrition, and natural treatments with some of todays top Health Practitioners. I eventually went back to school for a degree in Health (although the real learning happened by thousands of dollars in what seemed like “trial and error” methods).

I no longer have asthma and allergies and one of my tools was finding the right air purifier technology to help me. You can read my complete story of overcoming allergies and asthma here. It will also provide my background and experience from the air purifier industry.

Since I began my research in 1970 I have witnessed and warned people about:

* Air Purifiers that can actually harm your lungs

* Top Brand Air Purifiers that falsely claim to help allergies

* Falsified Air Purifier Tests

* Overpriced Replacement HEPA filters

* Air Purifier Warranties that sound good but COST you money

I have done comparative particle tests, decibel tests, as well as mold and germ tests on the current air purifier technologies.

I have owned hundreds of air purifiers myself, and I have spent time with some of the best Scientists, Technicians and manufacturers in China where most of today’s models are made.

Most people have wasted their money on TV infomercial air purifiers. Others have bought overpriced MLM machines from friends. Worst of all most purifiers bought fail to remove small particles and gases that could help environmentally sensitive people.

Am I an Unbiased Air Purifier Expert

Yes and no. I am biased against people getting the wrong air purifier for their needs and/or people spending too much money on the wrong air purifier. I know what it’s like to have allergies, and waste money on my health. I have promoted air purifiers that I thought would help people, and I’ve turned down promoting major brands I didn’t like. I often recommended other air purifiers to people without any financial interest in doing so.

Just like infomercial hype most online information is based on advertising and marketing. Many models sold today are 20 years old in their design, simply because most people don’t know any better.

To that end I finally decided to put together my years of expertise, personal experience, and that of my friends in the Health Field and in Engineering to provide you with the…

How To Compare Air Purifiers

April 4, 2021 by john

Before you start to compare air purifiers you should be able to answer these questions:

1) Which of the 10 Air Purifier Technologies match my needs? (If you don’t know what the 10 technologies are watch the video below)

2) What is the square footage for my room? This is determined by multiplying the width by the length. (You can approximate this, and factor in high ceilings.)

Once you have these two questions answered you can view the comparison chart to see ratings, square footage, and prices.

NOTE: On the left menu you will find a link to an Air Purifier comparison chart showing prices, square footage, warranty information and more. Or follow the link below…

Why Most People Choose The Wrong Air Purifier

There are several reasons why most people choose the wrong air purifiers. Here are the top 3:

Mistake #1: You don’t know the 10 technologies and end up missing the technology that solves your problem.

REASON 2: You don’t understand some of the questionable practices of air purifier manufacturers (EX: you end up buying an air purifier with a limited warranty, or overpriced replacement filters).

REASON 3: You pay too much for an air purifier because the infomercial or marketing convince you it will solve your problem.

4 Steps: How To Choose The Right Air Purifier

A few years back I wrote a comprehensive book about Air Purifiers entitled the “Consumers Guide To Air Purifiers”. The book includes Video Reviews, Comparison Charts, and Money Saving Coupons. In it I also share my story – how I overcome allergies and asthma.

What most people commented on as the most helpful part of the book was the simple 4-step process which helped them choose the right Air Purifier:

STEP 1 – Learn The 10 Air Purifier Technologies – to determine which technologies are needed to solve your problem.

STEP 2 – Determine Your Square Footage – by understanding how doorways, high ceilings, and asthma affect your square footage number. This will help you avoid purchasing an air purifier that is too large, or small, to do the job.

STEP 3 – View A Current Comparison Chart to analyze which top models can match the technologies and square footage criteria that you learned in Step 1 & 2. (The comparison chart also saves you money by allowing you to compare replacement filter costs, warranties, and retail prices).

STEP 4 – Watch Video Reviews And Read My Reviews – to finalize and narrow your choice.

“This book should be called “Everything You Need to Know About Air Purifiers”. It’s a lot more than your average consumers guide. Richardson’s vast knowledge base and personal testing experience in the field is unparalleled and his ability to condense information and make it understandable for the average reader is a pleasant surprise. If you’re interested in air purifiers, you’ll learn very quickly that this information is worth a lot more than it’s sold for. For me the categorizing of technologies with the symptoms they deal with was most helpful. Now I know what to use for my allergies, and sensitivities to mold! Now I know how to get the most effective, cheapest, (and cheapest to maintain) air purifier. THANK YOU!”

Discover Which Air Purifier Has The Technology To Solve Your Problem – And Start Breathing Better!

STEP #1: Review the 10 Technologies

People ask me all the time: “Mark, which is the best air purifier?” My answer: “The one with the filters that match your needs.” Of course most can’t name all 10 technologies, and how each one can (or won’t) help them.

So before you start your air purifier comparison online let me ask you these questions:

1) “What are the ten available technologies?” and

2)”Which ones will help your problem?”

STEP #2: Estimate Square Footage

The second step involves the next bit of information needed when comparing air purifiers.:

1) Square ft.

2) Also how manufacturers determine square footage. The first part is fairly easy – measuring the room’s length and width and multiply. If you have high ceilings add more feet onto your estimated square footage. Most air purifier square footage (as you’ll find on the spec sheets for all models reviewed on this site) is based on 7 foot ceilings. For 10 foot ceilings add about 25%, Cathedral ceilings 30-40%.

Most air purifier manufacturers tend to exaggerate square footage so allow for that when comparing air purifiers. Some technology (like HEPA) requires that the air goes through the machine. Other technologies (negative ions, or Ozone) does it’s work outside the machine in the room, which allows manufacturers to increase/exaggerate the numbers more easily. Most numbers are based on cleaning the air in the room once per hour.

For allergies/asthma you’ll want to clean the air 2x more an hour for effective allergy relief or prevention.

STEP #3: Review the Comparison Chart

Knowing the technologies you require (step 1) and the square footage (step #2) go back to the comparison chart to choose several models that fit your criteria.

More considerations:

1) Choose 3-4 models on the chart that fit your technology and square footage needs.

2) Be careful of replacement filter costs. In my opinion most manufacturers overcharge for their replacement filters.

3) When comparing air purifiers review the warranty policy. Often warranties that sound good initially have hidden costs (EX: pro-rated policies often make the company more money).

STEP #4: Watch The Video Reviews

Now that you’ve reviewed the comparison chart On the left menu you’ll find thorough written and video reviews, including particle tests, of most major air purifiers.

Best Air Purifiers – Which is Best For You

April 4, 2021 by john

Overview

I’ll start by saying that the ” Best Air Purifiers ” (according to any online reviews) have only a 99% chance of being the wrong air purifier for you.

Here’s why:

1 – There are 10 technologies. Do you know them? Do you know which ones fit your needs?

2 – Most air purifiers only use 2-3 technologies and choose incorrectly.

3 – Most manufacturers overcharge for replacement filters so consumers end up spending too much.

4 – The size of the room (square footage) will determine which air purifier is best and since all air purifiers are different – most people choose one that is too big or small.

Finding The Best Air Purifiers For YOU!

A better approach is to take the following four steps:

1 – Watch Part 1 of the Video below: 10 Technologies Explained

2 – Then watch Part 2: How to Determine Square Footage3 – Review the Comparison Chart (via the left menu) to match several models against your chosen technologies and square footage

4 – Watch the Video Reviews on the site of each chosen model, read the specification sheets, and pro’s and con’s of each model

5 – Make an informed decision

Complete Guide to Air Purifiers

Comparisons and Reviews

By now you should know which of the 10 air purifier technologies you want in your machine, and the proper square footage to cover. Now the Comparison chart (SEE LINK BELOW OR LEFT MENU) will provide you with enough choices to match your needs and square footage.

I’ve included replacement filter costs and warranty information which can be important in terms of operating costs and long term reliability. Filters should not cost over 80 (no matter how big) and Warranties should be a minimum of 3-4 years, ideally five.

Once you have several potential matches then the video reviews should help you determine the best for your needs.  Good Luck!

Do Ionic Air Purifiers Work For Asthma

April 4, 2021 by john

I started using ionic air purifiers in the 1960’s for asthma and allergies. So do ionic air purifiers work for asthma? NOPE. I wanted help with asthma and allergies to cats, dogs, dust and pollen. In fact it brought on an asthma attack. I’ll explain why shortly.

It was in the 1990’s that the Sharper Image model (an ionic air purifier) was finally removed from TV for the very reason that caused my asthma attack.

Do Ionic Air Purifiers Work For Allergies ?

NOPE! Well maybe I would more truthfully say it will help with allergies to smoke and odors. It will not be effective in helping dust or pollen.

The plates use positive and negative charges to attract pollutants. They just don’t work well since most dust and pollen does not have very much electrical charge. The static electricity effect from the plates (which also creates the zapping noise in the Oreck air purifier, often complained about) will attract a little dust. Just not very much.

The Problem with Ionic Air Purifiers

The problem with some Ionizers is this:

The washable “plates” in ionic air purifiers can often create dangerous levels of ozone. This created confusion for consumers because most consumers don’t understand the difference between ions, ionizers and ozone.

Ionizers are different from ozone machines. While Ionizer plates aren’t made intentionally to create ozone some ionizers (because of their design) happen to create ozone.

What Do ionic Air Purifiers Work For?

Ionic air purifiers will help with smoke, pollution and odor. If you are a smoker, or have someone close by who smokes the ionic air purifier would be a good low-cost way to remove smoke. That’s because the washable plates would save you from having to replace HEPA filters.

The other scenario for ionic air purifiers is to remove car and truck fumes from inside your car or home.

Conclusion

An ionizer is different from ozone machines, but can create ozone. The fact that an ionizer doesn’t work particularly well for dust or pollen may be the reason to look at air purifiers that use HEPA instead.

Best Room Air Purifier – 3 Things To Consider

April 4, 2021 by john

Thousands of people have asked me: “What’s the best room air purifier?”

And I always respond with these 3 questions:

1) What’s your air problem? (IE: asthma, allergies, odor, mold, etc.)

2) Is it a small room or a large room? (Square footage)

3) And how much do you want to spend?

That’s because there are 10 different types of purification and each does something different. What works for one problem won’t work on others. An example would be an ionic air purifier (good for smoke and odor) when you have allergies to pollen which would require a HEPA air purifier. And because each air purifier covers a different square footage you don’t want one too small or too big. You can also pay too much for a unit that has expensive replacement filters.

When the Best is Not The Best

Many sites may claim having the ” best room air purifier ” but often it’s not the “Best” for your needs. Each room is different.

By following the video instructions below you’ll be able to narrow your search and determine the best match for your needs.

STEP 1: Learn the 10 Technologies

The video below explains the 10 technologies…

STEP 2: Square Footage Problems

High Ceilings and furniture does affect square footage (as is listed on most air purifier boxes). Most square footage is based on 7-8 foot ceilings, and is based on an empty room. Allow for this in your calculations.

I often receive emails and phone calls about small room air purifiers as well. Yes, many air purifiers are simply too big for, let’s say a 10 x 12 room. That’s only 120 square feet.

Informed Comparisons

Now that you have a list of technologies you want, and the square footage, you might want to view the comparison chart (see link below) and watch some of the video and written reviews on this site for the air purifier that fits your needs.

Best Room Air Purifiers Compared

My Favorite 100 Air Purifier

My favorite small room air purifier is the Alive Air Mini seen in the video below: The link below has more information on the Alive Air Mini and where to purchase it.
