Hunter Air Purifier Review

April 2, 2021 by john

The Hunter Hepatech Air Purifiers, once popular for its effectiveness in purifying indoor air, do not appears to be available on Amazon at the moment.

I recommend considering the COWAY AP-1512HH Mighty Air Purifier as a worthy replacement.

It has gained a reputation for exceptional performance and advanced features.

For a comprehensive review of the Coway Air Purifier.

In summary, the COWAY Air Purifier is an excellent choice to replace the Hunter Air Purifier.

Overview

In this Hunter Air Purifier review I will provide a “broad stroke” look at the Hunter line of air purifiers. After that you can continue on to the reviews of the different hunter models. From there you can determine whether one of the small, inexpensive models from Hunter will fit your needs.

I remember buying one in a store a number of years ago when I had an idea to buy a small air purifier for my bathroom. The bathroom window opened onto a back alley which meant quite a few cars going by all day (Manhattan Beach, California). It was one of those impulse, on sale purchases when I was trying to find something that would fit in a very small space on a bathroom shelf by the window. It was cheap, and a bit loud (despite being small), but at least it removed some of the dust and dirt from the air.

The fact that carbon is best for car fumes (and the hunter does not use carbon) never crossed my mind, even though I’m known as an expert in the area of air purifiers. I was thinking “small space” and “on sale” and it completely bypassed my knowledge base. However it did collect soot from the cars, at least until I came to my senses and returned it several weeks later and found something with more ability to absorb fumes.

The Hunter Fan Company

While the Company has been around since the late 1800’s their entrance into air purifiers only began in 2004. Since then their niche has developed into the smaller, low-cost air purifiers.

The wide distribution channel into department and home remodelling stores with their fans has allowed Hunter to penetrate the air purifier market.

Conclusion

The Hunter Line of Air Purifiers are inexpensive and made in China. Made in China does not necessarily mean lower quality, and 99% of all air purifiers are made there because labor costs are so low. However the Hunter line are both the least expensive models on the market, and are probably some of the most cheaply made models.

My advice is this:

If you have 1) a small room 2) a small budget and 3) allergies then a hunter air purifier for your bedroom might be an affordable way to minimize dust and pollen. If your needs are great than a 10×12 room then I would suggest you buy something with a bit more quality, and that is made better.

The bottom line is that Hunter is the bottom line when it comes to air purifiers.

Hunter Air Company Info

Hunter Air began as a ceiling fan company long ago in 1886 when father and son team James and John Hunter made their first water-powered ceiling fan. The company rapidly developed over the years to become one of the premier manufacturers of ceiling fans in the country and abroad.

Today, their product line has expanded to include many items of comfort for the home, including thermostats, humidifiers and air purifiers. Their focus is on creating products that promote family comfort and health, without sacrificing style and durability in their craftsmanship.

Hunter Air Purifier Price Range

In recent years, Hunter Air has gained much credibility for its reasonably-priced line of air purifiers and their overall effectiveness in cleaning indoor air. These purifiers are said to be especially beneficial to those who suffer with allergies and have asthma symptoms. Hunter currently offers five air purifiers on their website, hunterair.com, that range in price from $90 to just over $250.

Air Purifier Technology

Hunter’s air purifier technology seeks to maintain their mission of creating reliable products without sacrificing style. Their Quiet Flo brand of air purifiers all use True HEPA filters, which are said to extract over 99% of damaging particles in the air. They also use a carbon filter that increases the life of the HEPA filter by trapping lint, hair and dust, and cleaning smoke and other odors from the air. The method of distributing clean air back into the room is a unique Hunter design that works by pushing the clean air out from the top of the unit so that particles that have settled in the room do not become airborne again.

Consumer Reports Ratings

In October 2005, Consumer Reports listed Hunter Air seventh on their room air cleaner ratings list. Hunter’s air purifiers have also received more than 30 reviews on Amazon.com, most of them with ratings that are over four stars. The company is not without its naysayers, however. Many reviewers argue that though the models are cost-friendly, the required filters are expensive and need replacement frequently, making for costly upkeep. Still others have reported disappointments in the overall quality of Hunter air purifiers and their lack of sufficient cleaning power for larger spaces.

Hunter makes a strong case for its customer satisfaction concerns, however, by offering a two-month unconditional return policy. Customers can return any item within two months of delivery, for a full product refund minus shipping.

Many consumers have also reported being pleased with Hunter’s ability to make themselves available to answer questions and provide support when needed. The company website posts clear customer service hours from Monday to Friday with a toll-free number for customers to call. In the age of ecommerce dealers who are notorious for being anonymous and reclusive when it comes to handling customer problems or concerns, this factor is refreshing to many.
