Honeywell 18155 SilentComfort Air Purifier Review

April 25, 2021 by john

I receive quite a few emails asking for product recommendations. The majority of them come from people who suffer from allergies and are looking in particular for an air purifier that will help them with their ailments. As it happens there is one air purifier, which even though it has been on the market for several years now, is difficult to beat. It is the SilentComfort Permanent True HEPA Air Purifier from Honeywell, otherwise known as the Honeywell 18155.

This air purifier is not just for allergy sufferers either since it is as efficient at removing allergens from the air as it is other airborne particles in addition to general household odors. In spite of the fact that there are many newer models on the market, the Honeywell 18155 is still what I would call the best Air Purifier for the money due to its excellent performance and low price.

I hope you enjoy reading my review. As ever, please leave a comment if you find it useful.

What we really liked about the Honeywell 18155:

  • Easy to maintain and clean
  • Good, robust and safe design
  • Uses a True HEPA filter that never needs replacement
  • Removes up to 100-percent of bacteria and germs that pass through
  • Air purifier with HEPA filter for up to 197-square-feet

Honeywell 18155 SilentComfort – You Will Notice the Difference Immediately

This air purifier from Honeywell is as good as any that they have produced so far. In order to see how well it works it is a good idea to read the views of a couple of recent users. These are people who suffered from health problems due to the bad quality of air in their homes. In the first case, the Honeywell HEPA filter allowed the couple to breathe again and to sleep at night. In the next case, the husband’s allergies were causing problems and his doctor actually made the recommendation to buy a HEPA air cleaner. In his case the air purifier “has been a miracle worker.” He not only sleeps well but the sleep has allowed him to overcome his lack of energy.

Silent and Effective Performance

There are many features which make this the best air purifier in its class. One of the best is the fact that it is so quiet, even on high it is still quieter than an air conditioning unit and when it is on low, it just emits a gentle white noise at a level similar to a computer fan. With this model you will have no trouble watching the TV or sleeping at night.

It cleans a large volume of air as demonstrated by its CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate) of 135 to 150, depending on which setting it is on. This is more than sufficient for medium sized rooms of 200 sq ft or so, where it equates to approximately 6 changes of air per hour. In addition to the true HEPA filter, there is also a carbon pre-filter, which keeps larger particles from clogging the HEPA filter. The carbon material also acts to reduce household odors.

This model is easy to transport from room to room due to its light weight.

No Ionizer Means No Ozone

The Honeywell 18155 does not incorporate an ionizer. This really is a good thing as it means there will be no ozone emissions. If ozone builds up in the house it can be bad for the lungs and allergies in general.

True HEPA is the Real McCoy

Many consumers are not aware that some air purifiers use filters that are HEPA-like in their design and others that use so-called True HEPA filters. There is no doubt that for best performance you need True HEPA as used in this air purifier. They promote better air circulation and are guaranteed to filter more particles from the air.

True HEPA is more efficient. In fact I have seen a Honeywell 18155 SilentComfort air purifier used to clean the air in a 1000 sq ft apartment. While the number of changes of air per hour is lower, it is still sufficient to do a good job on air quality and to remove odors.

The unit seems quite well built, and running on the low setting (which is where I leave it) there is very little noise.

Well Worth the Money!

Sure, there are cheaper air purifiers on the market but there is little point in spending less money if you don’t get a unit that will do the job. The Honeywell SilentComfort True HEPA Air Purifier has the benefit of advanced airflow design providing high speed and yet quiet operation…Buy Honeywell 18155 SilentComfort

Why Do We Even Need Air Purifiers?

Indoor pollution is on the increase. Indeed most people would be surprised to learn that indoor air pollution is actually 3 to 5 times higher than outdoor pollution. This is very important due to the fact that most of our lifestyles mean that we spend the majority of time in our homes.

Inside the home, there are many contaminants including general dirt and dust, mold, detergents and other cleaning agents, mites, pollen, pet hair as well as general household odors. The list of potential allergens goes on and on. For anyone suffering from a breathing problems such as asthma, this can be a serious situation.

The question is then, how do we improve the quality of the air in the home and therefore regain our health? The solution comes in the form of air purifiers. Although we can’t control the pollution in the outside environment, we can certainly control it indoors.
