A close friend had been looking to replace her old Honeywell HEPA air purifier and because Honeywell have a new air purifier on the market, I decided it might be a good idea to look at it. I know from personal experience that Honeywell’s previous unit worked well and that it was popular in the shops.
Now I have now seen several Honeywell air purifiers in the past so I had plenty to compare with. This made me interested to find out if this one, the Honeywell 17000 Permanent HEPA QuietCare Air Purifier, could meet expectations.

Very Good for Allergies
In reviewing a product, particularly one aimed at allergy sufferers amongst others, it is often best to listen to comments from people who actually suffer from allergies. Take this example of a lady who is asthmatic – “I bought two of these units, one for the bedroom, and one for the home office. My boyfriend can smoke without triggering my asthma even if it is running on the medium setting”. This Honeywell 17000 HEPA Air Purifier does an excellent job of filtering the air. Another benefit for asthma sufferers is that it does not have an ionizer. Ionizers produce ozone and ozone can be harmful to the respiratory system especially in the case of an asthmatic person.
Many of the most popular air purifers on the market are really just ionizers and they don’t do a good job of filtering allergens from the air. The Honeywell 17000 HEPA Air Purifier does not contain an ionizer though, and the HEPA is permanent meaning it can be cleaned. The pre-filter does need to be replaced though about once every 3 to 6 months but the replacement is very low cost compared to the filters for some other air purifier brands.

Easy to Maintain
The prefilters will last about 3-6 months, and they can be vacuumed often if you have pets who shed and this can more than double their lifetime if you do it carefully. The filters are easy to change in seconds.

The Honeywell 17000 HEPA Air Purifier removes at least 99.97% of all airborne particles from the air that passes through the filter. These particles can be anything from pollen, cat dander and household dust to tobacco smoke and mold spores. The air purifier operates best in a closed room and will work efficiently in rooms as large as 169 square feet (13 by 13 feet) but will still work in rooms larger than this. The prefilter reduces odors while the true HEPA filter is extremely effective at removing tiny particles as small as 0.3 microns.
The Honeywell 17000 has three speeds, which are very quiet considering the power of this air purifier. There is a five-year warranty against defects.
