Why does my air purifier leave a film on the floor around it and on the furniture
6 feet away?

Is the film a white powder or a black residue? I would need a more specific description and I’ll be happy to answer with my ideas. In the meantime a few thoughts:

The effect of the negative ions can sometimes cause pollution and other matter to attach itself around/near the machine. This was true with the old negative ionizers that plugged in the wall . They would turn the wall black (and was hard to clean).
